The energy potential of wood biomass in Ukraine at present allows develop actively the direction of alternative fuels, in particular solid biofuels. At present, only about 10% of total biomass capacity is used for energy needs in Ukraine and these needs are steadily growing up, increasing the demand for solid biofuels.
Such type of solid fuel is highly competitive compared to other traditional fuels. The most widely used is solid biofuels made from vegetable waste in the form of pellets and briquettes.
Wood waste in the forestry, woodworking and pulp and paper industries is an excellent source of biomass for the production of fuel briquettes and pellets as a major activity. Also, woodworking enterprises, carpentry workshops, sawmills, saw cutting plants, furniture industry can solve the problem of utilization of wood waste - residues of solid and soft species of wood massive, chip boards, MDF in the form of spill, sawdust, chips by pressing this waste into briquettes or pellets.
Pellets are compressed particles of vegetable origin used in boilers with automated fuel systems.
NESTRO type briquettes are of cylindrical shape and are produced by the PBU impact-mechanical presses. The advantages of NESTRO briquettes are low cost and quite a high density (1.0-1.15 t/m3).

Briquette and pellet production technology includes 3 main processes:
• Grinding of raw materials up to 3-7 mm
• Drying of crushed raw materials to a moisture content of 8-12% for briquettes, 14-18% for granules.
• Raw material pressing: briquetting or granulation.
