Elevator waste
In the process of treatment of seeds and grains the production waste is formed - husk, the output of which is 11-20% by weight of seeds. The husks are used to produce thermal energy by burning in boilers, for the manufacture of pellets and briquettes; a large part is removed to waste deposits, some part is sold to agricultural enterprises and the population for economic needs.
The husk is an excellent raw material for the production of fuel briquettes and pellets. High calorific value of sunflower husk, for example, is caused by the content of residual oil and wax in it.
In the last few years there has been an increasing need for briquetting and pelleting of sunflower husks and exports of finished products. As the husk has a bulk density of 170 kg/m3, long distance transportation is economically inexpedient. It is more profitable to produce granules or briquettes with a density higher than 1200 kg/m3 and to operate with them. Most of pellets and briquettes share is sold to European countries where they are in high demand.
